Election Night Extravaganza 2008 Celebrating the historic 2008
Presidential Election The ExCollege traditionally hosts an
Election Night event for every Presidential Election, but this year
was much different. Since the Campus Center had recently been
renovated to create a new and improved space in Hotung Café, the
stage was well-set for a mega event: The ExCollege Election Night
Extravaganza. Leaving the traditional venue, Cabot Auditorium,
behind, the ExCollege took over the Campus Center to bring students,
faculty, and staff together for a historical election night.
In the Commons, an area generally designated for dining and
studying, student organizations gathered at tables to draw visitors'
attention. Upstairs in the Lounge, students spilled out onto the
inner patio of the Campus Center because there were just so many
people watching the results live on TV. JumboCast was broadcasting
live the entire night and had several cameras set up at various
points of the Campus Center to capture different angles of the
action. President Bacow stopped by for a live interview upstairs and
then joined the rest of the crowd downstairs just moments before
final results were announced.
Hotung Café was the main hub of the evening's action. There was
nonstop news coverage all night. In between exciting results student
MCs conducted the flow of the evening with fun facts, political
humor, and intelligent insight. A bipartisan panel of students and
faculty provided their insight early in the evening. Even local Fox
25 covered the event and interviewed students about their
experiences and sentiments that night.
For many students this was their first election, and the ExCollege
was proud to provide a space where everyone could be together for
the momentous occasion.
